The Philips LHH800R, introduced in 1993, was one of the most ambitious CD players Philips produced for the Japanese high-end market. Developed in cooperation with Marantz Japan, it served as the reference model of the LHH series before the later LHH900R. The player combined Philips’ DAC7 Bitstream conversion platform with a fully discrete analog output stage, reflecting a design philosophy that prioritized speed, simplicity and musical realism over specification-driven marketing.

Technically, the LHH800R featured the respected Philips CDM-4/36 swing-arm transport, separate transformers for digital and analog circuits, a copper-plated chassis and extensive mechanical damping. Its discrete Non-NFB analog stage and carefully controlled internal layout gave the model a distinctive reputation among enthusiasts. Today the LHH800R is regarded as one of the most interesting examples of early 1990s Philips high-end digital engineering.
